Welcome To Our Website! As the days pass we look forward to sharing stories and information with you in our Blog. We welcome your comments and ideas so that we can learn from each other. Please stay tuned!
Ann and I hope that we can fulfill some of your needs, especially letting you know that you are not alone. There are others out there who feel the way you do.
We are close special friends, that friendship growing from a chance meeting at our Alzheimer’s Support Group a number of years ago. We live in the suburbs of Rochester, New York. Jim Ruppert began exhibiting signs of dementia at the age of 45 in 1992-3. He died in October 2011 at the age of 64 after 19 years with Alzheimer’s Disease, only the last 6 months requiring institutionalized care. Ralph Henderberg was diagnosed with dementia in 2004 and died in September 2011 at the age of 81 after 7 years with Lewy body dementia, only about a month and a half of which required institutionalized care.
Having 26 years of dementia caregiving between us, after the death of our beloved husbands, we felt the need to pass on some of our insights to the men and women caregiving now. We hope that by doing so, we will help make your journey just a little bit easier to travel. Ann and Vicky
Now that you know a little about us, let’s discuss how to navigate our site! There is a menu bar at the top of each page which will help you find your way around, viewing different topics of interest. Here is a short description of each section for your review. Enjoy!
Our Blogs — Experiences & Comments is a page that directs you to each of the three blogs on our website. There is a drop down menu listing each of them:
1) The Experience….Our Blog contains posts about topics of interest about dementia and caregiving with the ability to leave a comment about what was written. Eventually when many topics are present on the site, we will limit the number of days comments will be enabled, but we’re too young yet!
2) Every Day Humor (Blog) - Humor is what gets us through the day. This section is dedicated to funny moments we share and some laughable moments from you, Sometimes you just have to laugh! These little nuggets of brightness enlighten us when we need it most.
3) Favorite Reads (Blog) – Here we share the books we have read and liked, as well as allowing you to share resources as well.
Our New Book page provides a short summary of our book, Singing in the Rain: Weathering the Storm of Dementia with Humor, Love & Patience. that was recently released on the anniversaries of our husbands’ deaths. We hope you will find it interesting, reassuring, and informative. A link for ordering has been provided on that page so that you don’t have to go to Amazon.com to make a purchase.
Events lets you know what we are or have been involved in regarding Alzheimer’s and dementia. Perhaps it’s the Alzheimer’s Walk, or a book signing, or a book fair.
Visit the 2013 Facts and Figures published by the Alzheimer’s Association in March. The statistics will amaze you!
